Organic Pest Control

Many people have become sensitive to the negative impact that chemical pesticides have on the safety and health of animals (including humans) and the environment in general; indeed, pesticide exposure has been connected to a variety of diseases in people and wildlife. Natural, or organic, pest control methods have been born out of this sensitivity and you’ll find a variety of organic pest control ads on the Internet and in gardening magazines. Organic methods can range from smart organic garden pest control strategies to the use of natural pesticides, and anything in between.

Smart organic gardening pest control and organic farming pest control techniques include making sure that your soil is healthy and organic. Plants have their own natural pesticide mechanisms and making sure they have enough nutrients from an organically rich soil will ensure that they are strong enough to fight off pests without much help.

As for non-synthetic solutions to be used as pesticides, there is Orange Guard, a non-toxic bug killer that contains orange peel extract (technically, d-Limonene) as an active ingredient; d-Limonene causes insects to suffocate because it removes the wax coating from their respiratory system. Other citrus oils contain d-Limonene, and this substance is effective against the majority of crawling and flying insects.

For insect, like silverfish, organic pest control, garlic, hot peppers, and essential oils of herbs like cloves are supposedly very effective. Hot Pepper Wax, made from cayenne pepper, also works to repel rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks and other animals that could destroy your plants or crops. Pepper sprays work the same way, and you can even eat fruit sprayed with pepper sprays after just a few hours after application.

Other natural products to both repel and kill common pests of your yard and garden include ingredients such as sesame oil, thyme oil, and clove oil. You can apply these solutions to your plants or large areas of your lawn or garden. Add some safflower oil to garlic powder and you’ll have a powerful deterrent against deer and other animals.

Many ant killers are made from natural oils that have actually been approved as food additives; ants will take the poisonous bait and carry it back to the nest, feeding it to the queen. The queen will be killed or rendered infertile. Food products such as black pepper and garlic can also be used in mosquito sprays, which many people use to blanket their yard, with the aid of a hose sprayer. These sprays initially give off an unpleasant odor, but this disappears after about 30 minutes; its mosquito repellent effects can last up to 60 days.

There are many more organic, or natural, garden pest control techniques and general organic pest control methods than those listed here. Whether you’re looking for organic pest control on Cape Cod, like Cape Cod organic pest control for your garden, or organic pest control in New York City, you’ll be able to find natural pest control methods to deal with all your pest problems.
