Mosquito Netting

Let’s face it. Mosquitoes are annoying. Besides that nerve-wracking buzz in your ear, however, mosquitoes can cause irritating bites that can become infected; and for those of us who seem to be the dish of choice for these bugs, bites can be enormously unpleasant. And as everyone knows, mosquitoes can also carry diseases. One way to protect against mosquito attack is to use mosquito nets.

The purpose of a mosquito net is to essentially create an obstacle that will block mosquitoes from being able to reach their potential human victims. Mosquito nets come in a wide variety of designs and can be found for both outdoor and indoor use, in almost every situation. You will be able to find mosquito netting for gazebos, patio tables with umbrellas and dining tents. You can also find a mosquito net for bed needs, a mosquito net for crib needs, sleeping bags and cots. A mosquito net for travel needs is also available. A mosquito net hat or mosquito net suits are perfect for avid hikers, fishers, bikers or anyone who spends a great deal of time in outdoor activities of this nature; there is really no difference between a mosquito net for girls or boys. And if pre-fabricated mosquito netting options don’t quite meet your needs, you can always purchase bulk mosquito netting or wholesale mosquito netting, cut it and attach it as you see fit.

The majority of these mosquito nets are created to hang from some central point and then drape over a certain area down until they reach the ground. You can hang nets from the top of a ceiling, umbrella, or tent. There are situations, however, in which for whatever reason you’re not able to hang your net from any spot; in these cases, you can purchase freestanding, pop up mosquito netting enclosures or self-supporting mosquito nets. You can opt for black mosquito netting, which many consider decorative mosquito netting; even if a mosquito net is a decorative mosquito net, though, it should still perform its job.

Some mosquito nets come pre-treated with an insecticide to give you the maximum protection possible against mosquito attacks, while other nets are untreated. Whether you use a treated or untreated net is really up to you. The most common insecticide used for treated mosquito nets is permethrin. This is a synthetic (or man-made) insecticide, which means it will actually kill mosquitoes, not simply repel them.

This insecticide binds to the fibers of the netting’s fabric once it has dried, but it has been shown that it is neither harmful to the environment nor to the people who come into contact with treated fibers, including small children. It does break down when exposed to sunlight and it does get washed off, which means that one treatment is not enough to make its insecticidal properties work forever. You’ll need to retreat the netting periodically with permethrin insecticidal spray to sustain its effectiveness.
